The development process
The journey to create MetaPiano started with identifying the perfect piano for sound sampling. A Japanese Concert Grand Piano was chosen and meticulously recorded, capturing every aspect of its unique sound. This high-quality audio became the base for spectral analysis. Recorded in a tranquil studio in Patagonia, using industry-leading microphones and preamps, the process captured crystal-clear waveforms. A custom algorithm then processed the audio, extracting the distinctive characteristics of each note and noise. As a result, the Spectral Engine 2.0 generates distinct and irreplaceable sounds every time a note is played.
Spectral modelled grand piano
In contrast to physical modelling that relies on theoretical approaches, MetaPiano uses Spectral Modelling, which is based on real samples, to deliver hyper-realistic sounds. This approach recreates the natural sound production, resulting in an organic and warm tone. With over 64 groups of timbre components mapped and recreated, MetaPiano offers a realistic and warm sound in just 60 MB, while also maintaining low CPU usage.
Complete decays - no loops
The Spectral Engine enables MetaPiano to reproduce the full length of real notes without the need for loops. It allows for decays that last for a minute or more on lower notes, mimicking the true resonance of a grand piano.
No dependency on velocity switching
MetaPiano captures the complete dynamics of the original instrument. There is no dependency on velocity switching, eliminating the need for layers or regions as required by older sampling techniques. Each note played is a true reflection of the original sound.
Control features
MetaPiano stands out with its 88 spectral modelled notes, scalable HD interface, and a package size of about 60MB. It offers low CPU usage and is based on real samples. The controls include an ambient reverb based on impulse response, master gain, wood resonance, and width control from stereo to mono. Users can also adjust the dynamic velocity as per their needs.
