Undeniable impact
Released in 1980, the Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composers popularity has only ever increased, continuing to grow even to this day. Straying away from providing you with 'traditional' or 'realistic' drum sounds, the TR-808 managed to find a place in all walks of musical genres thanks to its punchy and impactful sounds that added weight and movement unheard of until its release. The unmistakable sound of the sizzling hi-hats, snappy snares and booming bass can be found anywhere from worldwide hits to underground classics, regardless of the genre! So widely recognised, it has even been the subject of a full feature-length documentary, that's how synonymous the name is to the sound!
Often imitated, never replicated
Described simply as "what drums sound like" the iconic nature of the 808-style drums has influenced many musical genres, with some utilizing it as the main instrument and defining sound of the style. Brought to life with the innovative analog circuit behaviour (ACB) component level modelling technology, the Roland Cloud TR-808 Virtual Instrument captures perfectly the feel and sound of the original hardware. Not simply a reductive sample pack of sounds or imitative knock-off, the Roland Cloud TR-808 Virtual Instrument pays homage to the analog origins by accurately replicating the adjustable characteristics of each drum and their interactions with each other. An organic flavour that's unmistakable from the original, the Roland Cloud TR-808 Virtual Instrument puts the booming low end, sizzling hi-hats and thunderous toms to your music productions.
Expanded functionality
Although all the nuance and detail of the original are accounted for, the Roland Cloud TR-808 Virtual Instrument injects new and exciting enhancements to level up your productions. The classic 16-step "TR-REC" sequencer is now expandable to include a lane per instrument, allowing you to program your sequences faster and more fluidly. Adjustable flams and soft hits allow you to create more detailed grooves and fills than ever before, with each instrument featuring a "last step" to program complex shuffle rhythms and polyrhythms. Once you have created your sequence, you can simply drag the pattern directly from the plugin to your DAW session as a MIDI or audio file. These new features allow you to explore a great deal of flexibility without being constrained by the limitations of hardware sequencers, making it the perfect tool for modern electronic music production workflow.
Hardware Integration
To keep up with the needs of the modern composer, musician and performer, the TR-808 Virtual Instrument is compatible with select Roland hardware, including the TR-8S Rhythm Performer. You can now send patterns from the hardware directly to your plugin, including all eight variations to store these for any future performances or sessions, making it easier than ever to recall your favourites. Not only that, but you are able to send patterns from your plugin through to your hardware with pre-mapped controls for on the fly editing of parameters such as volume, tune and decay.
