Flexible triggering to fit with your audio source
In order to reverse your signal, audio must be passed through the plug-in and recorded. There are three ways you can trigger the audio recording. Hitting the 'Manual' trigger button will immediately start recording your signal whereby depending on your 'Reverse Time' setting, will automatically shut-off after the number of bars, beats or time selected. Audio Threshold level allows you to trigger a reverse when your audio volume exceeds the selected level, ideal for creating rhythmic verse delays. Lastly, Host Start trigger activates instantly after you start playing in your DAW or music host program. Host Start is ideal for drum grooves, sequences or drum machine loops, adding complex reverse rhythms over the top of a strong foundational groove. An Offset parameter is included for Host Start triggering, allowing you to time your reverse better with the original groove, ensuring you don't get very quick slapback echoes and instead get liquid, flowing rhythms that add to the groove. Once you have found the sweetspot of your groove, use the onboard 'Lock' control to save your settings, allowing you to try it out on all manner of different vocal melodies, drum grooves, bass lines and more.
Experiment with unique rhythmic patterns in your grooves
Offering a different way to add excitement and movement in your compositions, RP-Reverse provides you with complete control the rhythm of your reversed audio. In the Reverse section, Hold Time and Rev Time parameters are used in conjunction to create the rhythm of your audio. Rev Time tells you how many bars of audio will be recorded and played back in reverse whereas Hold Time indicates the amount of bars that it will take before audio is recorded again. Using these two parameters together in conjunction, RP-Reverse allows you to fine-tune the rhythym of your reversing, opening up new worlds to groovy complexities. Experiment with using the Hold Time set to every 4 bars with a Rev Time of 1 bar on a drum groove, letting your reversing happen only every 4 bars to add a dash of unpredictability in your composition, or match both parameters for an unconventional effect for a main vocal hook.
Mix your reversed audio
As a plug-in based in the non-conventional, RP-Reverse includes a number of added tools to help you shape the sound of your audio to your track or mix. Experimenting with these parameters can result in a sound full of accidentals and unpredictability, perfect for contemporary sound designers or producers looking for an edge to your sound. A low and high-pass filter, both with adjustable Q-control allow you to remove any excessive low and high-frequencies to not obscure the dry audio frequency response, whilst the onboard pre-reverse distortion control can add a large amount of crunching harmonics to your track.
Of course, no Rob Papen plug-in is complete without modulation, and RP-Reverse delivers on this promise. A single LFO is used to modulate the volume, pan, high-pass and comb-filter of the reversed signal. A wide range of motion is available with the onboard LFO, syncable to your host's tempo or manually adjustable.
