Key Features
The McDSP NR800 Noise Reduction HD v7 is a HD-ready eight-band noise reduction plug-in that lets you target specific frequencies to produce clean and precise recordings, perfect for use in live sound, post-production and studio music production. Compatible with HD formats, the McDSP NR800 Noise Reduction HD v7 can run on your host processing or the DSP processors (such as the McDSP APB or the Avid HDX) to save your system from excessive CPU. Using audio-optimised algorithms, NR800 operates with no internal latency, meaning no matter how aggressive your noise reduction, you won't introduce artefacts or distortion to your signal that can be found in transform-based processing plug-ins.
Centered around eight bands of focusable noise reduction, the McDSP NR800 is ideal for targetting specific frequencies where noise occurs in your signal, delivering a non-destructive process that allows you to preserve the natural tone and character of the audio. With six noise reduction modes and eight noise reduction bias settings, you have a wide range of options and shaping available to tackle any obstacle. A set of input filters can be configured with slopes from 6, 12, 24 and 36dB/Oct can be set independent of the eight bands to create an ultra-precise noise reduction process.
Ideal for almost any aspect of music and audio processing, the McDSP NR800 can work on anything from cleaning up dialog in post-production, removing noise contamination from vintage music recordings, as a live production tool to remove bleed between instruments and in studio productions for traditional gating on recorded instruments.

Using the Snap function, you can quickly automate both the Gain and Threshold parameters of your NR800 Noise Reduction plug-in to get up and running in lightning-speed time with ease. The Snap function analyses the source tones frequency spectrum and then automate the noise reduction, gain and threshold of each of the eight bands accordingly. The Snap function can either be set to the signal of only the noise playing on its own, giving you a very aggressive noise reduction that is best suited for highly noisy signals or you can set the snap function to the level of the music, resulting in a less aggressive noise reduction, ideal for more subtle reduction in dialogue or post-processing productions.
For instruments with lots of noise in between hits such as a distorted electric guitar, this feature is invaluable in clamping down on excessive background noise without interfering with the tone or character of the signal, leaving anything under the automated threshold to go untouched. Once you have analysed your signal with the Snap function, you can still go into greater detail and manually make any adjustments to certain frequency bands for more accuracy in your noise reduction.
Rather than provide you with a plethora of options that simply aren't useful or will convolute the process, McDSP NR800 gives you two simple options that will change the way the plug-in reacts to your input signal. Included with NR800 is six Noise Reduction Modes and eight Noise Reduction Bias settings. The Noise Reduction Modes lets you clamp down on noise reduction at different speeds while the Bias changes the way the plug-in determines the Snap values within the Snap function.
With these options, you have a comprehensive set of controls that allows you to dial in the exact amount of noise reduction, how fast that operates and the response of your Snap function in no time.
Whether you're a studio engineer recording bands and artists or whether you're working remotely on post-production projects for film, TV and media, the McDSP NR800 offers a flexible solution for every scenario. Reducing the wind noise or background noise in dialogue is quick and easy. Even when using aggressive settings, you won't introduce any artefacts such as audio 'chirping', meaning that for intimate, intense dialog scenes, you can be sure you'll retain the emotion and feeling of the scene while keeping it clean and precise. For restoration projects, NR800 is well configured to deal with subtle background noises, including those found on old music recordings. For studio engineers working on re-mastering vintage music recordings, film or TV recordings, the NR800 allows you to preserve their natural tone whilst eliminating any background hum, hiss or noise in targetted frequencies.
