Superior Shell Technology

To deliver the Masterworks sound, you need superior drums with the most meticulous design. The Superior Shell Technology is a proprietary technique involving suturing the maple wood plies with Pearl’s AcoustaGlue. The plies are then baked in high temperature with 1000 PSI of hydraulic pressure to produce indestructible shells that exhibit rich, thunderous tones and outstanding resonance.

Outer 60-degree bearing edges offer the perfect sound

Each of the shells in the Pearl Masterworks 20'' 4pc Shell Pack include an outer 60-degree bearing edge. This is a more shallow edge, providing a focused growl and pop. This bearing edge pulls brighter overtones and increases the overall punch of the tone.

A perfect blend of tamo ash, maple and gumwood

Tamo ash is well-balanced in both resiliency and hardness, making it a great choice for durable, light and resonant drums. Ash wood shells provide pronounced and cutting sounds, with warm highs, mids and average lows. As well as the sound and durability, ash wood also provides a great advantage to the aesthetics of the drum. The natural woodgrain of ash is extremely smooth and subtle - providing a stunning aesthetic on natural and coloured drum shells.

Maple offers a great balance of tone, attack and body. Its rich, lustrous lows and evenly balanced mid and high frequencies have made it the preferred hardwood, boasting its wide sonic range and acoustic balance.

Gumwood is a very hard wood, harder than common drum shell woods such as maple and birch. This provides superb levels of volume and projection, while offering a longer sustain. This increased level of volume and control puts you firmly in the driving seat, powering through in any mix.

When mixed, these materials create a brilliant mixture of extreme power, volume and projection with the warmth and lustrous lows that maple offers. Because of this hybrid, the Pearl Masterworks 20'' 4pc Shell Pack is a perfect choice for drummers looking to rise above in a range of genres and playing styles.

Careful shell design for maximum quality

First, a premium hardwood is hand selected and formed into a precise 2-ply layer. Pearl’s trademarked overlapping seam, Scarf Joint Seams, are added to ensure a perfect airtight fit to each layer. The wood plies are then saturated with Pearl’s exclusive adhesive – AcoustaGlue which permeates every pore to the exact consistency of the wood for optimum resonance. During this process, the plies are formed in high temperature molds with 1000 PSI of hydraulic pressure. Finally, for optimal resonance, strength and tonal quality – all of the shells are tested for flatness and roundness before drilling and assembly to assure supreme tuning.

Premium shells with superior hardware

The Mastercast 1.5mm Die-Cast Hoops provide additional weight to each drum for tonal body. This increases the volume in each stroke, most noticeably in rimshot hits and high-velocity playing. The CL Bridge Lugs give the drums a classic look and makes contact to the shell in separate points for the right amount of vibration control. This is enough to provide maximum stability, without having any unwanted rattling or noise.
