The new era of Reason is here. Reason 11 will be available on September 25th 2019, with Propellerhead bowing out, replaced by a new name – Reason Studios. Reason 11 sets a new precedent in workflow and integration, as well as incorporating a variety of new features, sounds and enhancements. One of the main new features is the ability to use Reason as a plugin. That’s right, for the first time ever you can incorporate Reason’s synths, instruments, effects and sounds in the form of the Reason Rack plugin.
There are also a range of new devices including: Quarter Chorus Ensemble, Sweeper Modulation Effect, Master Bus Compressor, Channel Dynamics and Channel EQ. New workflow features and enhancements are also included. The new and improved automation allows you to draw smooth curves for enhanced control. You can also crossfade between audio clips, eliminating overlaps and creating a smoother sound. The zoom feature has also been expanded with improved and per-track vertical zoom in the sequencer. Other workflow upgrades include the ability to mute MIDI notes, draw multiple notes and show selected or played notes within the key edit.
Reason 10.1 is now available, boasting a range of new features and enhancements. The Rack Extension SDK has been updated, turning into a totally new version. It includes player devices, improved loading with sample zones and support for pattern automation. The new Drum Sequencer is now available from the Propellerhead shop.
This innovative drum sequencer allows you to create patterns and rhythms using a classic-style 16-step sequencer interface. The flagship synth Europa also sees a powerful update, allowing you to load your own samples as wavetables and use oscillators in the engine. You can also now sample in Spectral Filter for a flexible new way to create filter curves.
Propellerhead Reason 10 is jam-packed with content, including brand new additions to the software including three synthesizer instruments and more. One of the most prominent new additions to the software is the Europa synthesizer. This shapeshifting synthesizer is at the forefront of virtual synthesis. This ultra-versatile synth gives you full control over every aspect of your sound design. As well as utilising existing waveshapes, you can change the way your waveshapes react and are sculpted using the included ‘Shape’ control. This allows you to vary the way the waveform is shaped, resulting in interesting and ground-breaking results. It boasts dynamic wavetables and advanced spectral filtering, allowing you to get in-depth with your sound design.
Another new addition is the ‘Grain’ sample manipulator. This fuses granular synthesis with elements of additive synthesis, creating a synth engine allowing you to incorporate your own audio samples. This opens up a world of possibilities when it comes to sound design.
Also included in Reason 10 is three new natural and organic virtual instruments. These organic instruments are designed to emulate real instruments in a virtual world. Klang is a tuned-percussion instrument that delivers beautiful-sounding percussive instruments such as the Kalimba, Music Box, Glockenspiel and more. It features a range of controls for changing the way the presets sound, adapting to whatever genre you are making.
Pangea provides you with stringed instruments from around the world. Including esoteric instruments such as the Kinderklavier and the Zitherette, Pangea also includes other more-known instruments such a ‘Struck Grand Piano’. Lastly, the Humana instrument provides ethereal tones in the form of choirs and other vocal textures. Humana is comprised of a range of out-of-this-world choir tones vocal sounds.
3GB of brand new, cutting edge drum loops and samples are also included with Reason 10, providing everything from modern-day sounds to classic breaks and more. Propellerhead have hand-picked these loops and samples from Samplemagic’s vast library spanning every genre. From Trap to Techno, these drums will hit hard and cut through any mix, providing you with a wide range of powerful sounds.
These two wildly popular rack-extensions now come with Reason 10 as standard. By popular demand the Radical Piano instrument is now included, providing with three ultra-realistic pianos. It gives you three pianos to choose from: home Grand, Deluxe Grand and Upright. You can also choose between a blend of vintage mono, ambience, floor, jazz and close microphone for added versatility.
Synchronous is a creative modulation device that allows you to add rhythms to your pads, glitch your drums and even make your bass wobble. Synchronous is ideal for tremolo or ducking effect as well as building up modulation chains for complex effects.
Reason 10 still retains all your favourite features and functions form Reason 9.5, boasting a ergonomic layout, designed to streamline your workflow. The handy arrangement windows and virtual rack allow you to drag and drop virtual instruments and other devices into your workspace. You can also route equipment together by switching to the rear view of the rack, then swapping and switching the virtual cables between connections.
This gives you virtually endless possibilities when it comes to sound design, allowing you to create chained instruments and more. You can also Record, edit and arrange audio with the powerful recording and editing tools. Quantizing MIDI or audio to fix timing problems is easy with the intuitive sequencer, you can also add more character and swing to your productions with the ReGroove device.
