The SE 245 is based on a classic single cutaway guitar design, and is constructed with the well renowned combination of a mahogany back and maple top. Mahogany delivers great resonance and classic warm tones with a natural mid-range focus. The maple accentuates higher overtones and adds shimmering brightness on top of your overall sound. The single cutaway design has been a staple of past generations of guitars and has found its way into the hands of countless professional musicians in all sorts of genres. The PRS 245 continues this legacy and delivers PRS's effortless playability, great-looks with its stunning flamed maple veneer, and wide range of rock/blues-inspired tones. It is constructed with the notorious attention to detail that PRS are known for, and gives you a high performing 22 fret instrument that can inspire the developing musician.
The SE 245 is designed to bring the best of classic guitar designs with easy playability. A 24.5'' scale length is slightly shorter than their custom models and is the ideal length for easy string bends and vibrato. The single cutaway body and low-profile set-neck joint provide easy access to all 22 frets, with the lower horn featuring a bevelled cut to further assist your left hand. Medium frets are smoothly finished and the whole guitar sits comfortably in your hands with a chunkier "Wide Fat" neck profile providing an effortless playing experience across the whole rosewood fingerboard. The all-mahogany neck and body lends this guitar a mid-range focus like the classic designs it was based on. It gives great sustain and warmth; ideal for rock and blues tones.
The Standard 245 is equipped with PRS 245 "S" humbuckers which complement the mahogany construction with their clarity and sustain. With a 3-way switch they can access powerful bridge tones and mellow flute-like sounds, to cover all bases from clean sounds through to overdriven aggression or biting lead sounds. They are very responsive to player dynamics or volume/tone control adjustments, and will provide a vintage-vibe tonal range with increased versatility. These features make the PRS SE Standard 245 a versatile instrument that delivers familiar single-cutaway solid-body guitar tones.
Anyone who has heard Paul Reed Smith talk about guitars knows that he is fastidious in his research and development and his continual drive to improve his guitar designs. The PRS SE 245 is a true reflection of that, and the SE range has continued to evolve beyond it's initial design brief of being a "Student Edition" instrument. Quality machine-heads and bridges along with solid tonewoods and high quality construction methods help to deliver accurate tuning and intonation with a fantastic playing experience. This guitar would make a fantastic platform for a developing musician, and goes far beyond what you would consider to be a 'beginner' guitar; pro players could equally find that the specification, playability and reliability matches their requirements perfectly.
