The combination of sitka spruce and mahogany provides players with a sonically pleasing experience that will sound just as pure and natural when amplified. The stunning sitka spruce top produces a versatile sound that will accommodate numerous different genres and playing techniques, from aggressive strumming to fingerpicking styles. Sitka spruce yields crisp articulation and has a rich fullness of tone that retains clarity at all dynamic levels. The sitka spruce top is accompanied by mahogany back and sides, which provides players a truly beautiful tone blended with the highest quality that you would expect from a Gibson guitar. Mahogany produces a thick present mid-range and an earthy voice that is especially used in blues and bluegrass music. In addition to its superb tone, the choice of mahogany also offers a stunning grain pattern which added to the overall vintage appearance of the guitar.
Constructed from mahogany, the J-35's neck provides players with plenty of resonance and offers a durable and stable play. Its rounded neck profile fits comfortably in the player's hand, and provides smooth fluent playability. The neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard which produces a warm, bright, sizzling-sparkle that really shines through when using fingerpicking techniques. Sprinkled with mother-of-pearl dot inlays for added elegance and a high-quality finish.
The Gibson J-35 features a round shoulder dreadnought body shape that was originally nicknamed the 'Work Horse' back in 1942. The J-35 provides players with plenty of projection and maintains overall tonal balance across the spectrum. The dreadnought shape was originally designed for hard pick attack. However through years of superb craftsmanship, Gibson have created a stunningly toned, well-balanced dreadnought voice that can handle numerous styles of play with equal ease. The big body is better suited to players with a longer reach, and those more comfortable with the dreadnought size. The sheer volume the J-35 can project makes it ideal for the singer/songwriter, as vocalists can really push their diaphragm to the max and not feel too loud against the guitar's volume. The round shoulder body delivers an impeccable dynamic range, warm mids, and tight punchy bass and a full-bodied acoustic tone. Its round shoulders not only offer an elegant aesthetic but provide the J-35 with a mellow mid-range focus for players of all styles and techniques.
The Gibson J-35 comes equipped with the popular VTC pickup from L.R. Baggs, which features a low-profile undersaddle pickup that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Combined with an unobtrusive and removable volume/tone control mounted just within the soundhole, the VTC and the J-35 together provide the idyllic setup for the professional musicians. The VTC features rotary controls for both volume and tone shaping, and is designed to project the rich sonic character that you'd expect from a mic'd up performance in a studio environment. Gibson are providing players with L.R. Baggs electronics that capture the magic of your guitar's natural acoustic tone, and replicates it perfectly.
As with many of Gibson's acoustic range, the J-35 features traditional hand scalloped X-bracing. This specific type of bracing structure consists of two braces forming an 'X' shape across the soundboard which not only enhances the sound and offers a well-balanced tone, but also provides a reinforced stable and durable structure.
