Modern guitarists often require a multitude of gain levels from their amps and struggle to find that capability without using large pedalboards or digital modelling. The ENGL Screamer 50 manages to cram 4-channels of real valve tone into a compact 1 x 12'' combo and can deliver all the gain levels you'll need for any gig with professional connectivity to integrate easily with your current setup or live rig.
On the surface, the ENGL Screamer 50 is a twin channel amp with a shared 3-band EQ. With most combos, that feature-set would be the end of story but with the Screamer 50 each channel can be operated in low/high gain modes, providing you with 4 effective channels. This gives you the range to cover everything from crystal clean sounds through to edge-of-breakup tone, onto crunch sounds before reaching all-out tube saturation. The various modes can be accessed via ENGL's propriety range of footswitches and MIDI systems, giving you the on-stage remote capability to access any gain level you require.
The Screamer 50 provides you with a 3-band EQ plus an additional bright control to dial in the exact sound you require. A separate lead presence control allows a different lead channel setup to cut through the mix, while the on-board reverb provides a lush backdrop for those clean chordal parts or to sit behind a powerful solo. Two separate master volumes also provide the ability to set a solo boost level that can be operated via remote footswitch.
The Screamer 50 includes an FX loop which can be switched between parallel and serial modes allowing you to utilise your own effects in-between the preamp and power amp valves. A balance control lets you adjust the amount of effects that you hear in your final output. Multiple speaker outputs are also provided should you wish to expand the range of your sound with an external cabinet. A frequency compensated XLR out is a nice addition, giving you a speaker-simulated tone for feeding directly into a mixing desk or recording device, should you not have the capability to use a microphone with your amp, or if you need a simple solution to sending your signal through a PA.
Beyond the Screamer 50's simple and stylish outward appearance lies an amp with a surprising amount of versatility and professional capability for any live performance or recording situation. Here you have ENGL's rigorous built-standards delivering 50 watts of organic valve tone with the capability to add remote switches and provide a very useful gigging platform for all your tonal requirements.
