Key Features
Product Ref: 77847
This shell pack features an 8 ply 12 x 9" rack tom, an 8 ply 16 x 14" floor tom and a 22 x 18" kick drum. When tuned low/medium these shells are ideal for rock, pop and a wide range of other musical genres. When tuned up a bit tighter the HVX shells handle the sharp jazz sound with ease.
The DW Performance Drums feature a brand new shell technology devised by John Good and the DW Custom Shell Shop in California. DW takes hand-selected North American Hard Rock Maple and uses the latest grain orientation technology to produce HVX shells that deliver low, punchy tones with plenty of resonance and projection. This innovative hybrid makes them perfect for live applications.
All Performance shells are cool tempered which means that once they have been baked under pressure they are pressurised cooler to ensure that the glue instantly crystalises and the shell hardens to a perfect cylinder. This process greatly increases tuning stability.
The DW Performance Drums are custom-inspired, with a new Quarter Turret lug (a scaled-down version of the famous round DW lug), low mass die-cast claw hook, new badge, logo head and ultra-durable hand-sprayed specialty lacquer finish. They're designed to get noticed for all the right reasons. Easy to tune, superior sounding HVX shells, combined with DW heads by Remo USA, STM™ (Suspension Tom Mounts), True Pitch™ Tuning and DW 45 degree back-cut bearing edges, make these drums sing.
Chrome Standard Triple Flange Hoops give these drums a really versatile sound that suits all types of players from jazz and funk to rock and hip hop. Steel Triple Flange Hoops come in graduated weights (1.6mm for the rack tom and 2.3mm for the floor tom).
DW’s patented STM™ (suspension tom mount) system allows the drums to vibrate freely, for maximum resonance while securely holding the drum in place. Because there are no washers or grommets inhibiting the lug rod receiver, choking is reduced and tuning is as easy as ever.
To give drummers even more control over their sound, DW created its patented True-Pitch® rod system. The rods feature 5mm threads rather than the 12/24 that’s standard on most other drums. To compare, there is 1 thread every 0.8mm on their True-Pitch® rods (about 20 more threads), versus 1 thread every 1.05mm on most other drums. The result is a more exacting tuning process. Performance Series floor toms also feature chrome plated steel 21" legs for stability and strength.
DW Performance Series drums come standard with a set of heads made specially for DW by Remo USA. The bass drums features coated/clear batter heads (with inlay ring) and ebony resonant logo heads (vented).
Toms come standard with coasted/clear batter heads and clear resonant tom heads. The coated/clear heads incorporate a coated tone ring for just the right amount of muffling with plenty of resonance. Crimped flesh hoops provide maximum vibration and durability.
Drum Workshop, or DW, Drums have been on the market now for over 30 years. Hailed as the "drummer's choice", DW drums have become the standard against which many others are measured. Both drummers themselves, Don and John began DW in 1972 to create new and innovative products to improve the art of drumming.
"We are always thinking about how to make things a little bit better, we try to respond to that thread that runs through every drummer's soul." John, DW Drums
Now this hugely respected American drum brand has artists the like of Dave Grohl, Aaron Spears (Usher), Neil Pert (Rush), Sheila E (Prince) and Roger Taylor (Queen) on their rosta and are recognised worldwide as a mark of quality.
"Taking a premium brand into a lower pricepoint can be tricky, but DW seems to have got the Performance Series spot on." Rhythm Magazine
"The bass drum has a really warm tone and can be tuned quite low for rock applications, but also retains its timbre, warmth and fullness of sound at high tensions. The drum has a definite note, rather than a thud, which just seemed to blend in with whatever style of music was being played." Drumscene Magazine
"Combining horizontal, vertical and cross-laminated plies in these shells has created a rich, low-mid timbre drum with added strength and projection. You're getting the best of many worlds with the Performance series drums. This kit is well-balanced, focused,, dynamic and versatile in live or recording environments. I can see them flying out of the door." Drummer Magazine
